Chesham objects in other collections

  • Have you spotted an object associated with Chesham in another museum? If so, we would love to know about it. Chiltern Toys had a factory making wooden and other toys in Waterside, Chesham until the outbreak of WWII. This Chiltern Toys bear is in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Special Events

  • Saturday 11th September. Chesham Museum, in partnership with Chesham Walkers are Welcome, are arranging a guided Heritage walk entitled 'Watkin's Walk: Chesham's Place in Railway History'. The walk will recreate part of Sir Edward Watkin's proposed rail route from Manchester to Paris via Chesham. Watkin (1819-1901) was Chairman of the Metropolitan Railway.

    Come along to the Museum at 9.30am on 11th September from where you will be taken by volunteer drivers to Tring. The walk will start from there at 10am and will be approximately 9 miles, back to Chesham Museum via Chesham Station. Please ensure that you have proper footwear, suitable for walking, appropriate protection for the weather and a packed lunch and water. The walk is free but booking is essential.   • Sunday 12th September. As part of 'Chesham Heritage Weekend' Chesham Museum will be open in the morning as well as the afternoon from 11.00am to 4.00pm and admission will be FREE on this day only.

Exhibitions

  • 10 April - 22 September, House & Home. A temporary exhibition to highlight some of Chesham's more interesting houses and house building projects.
  • 12 September - Chesham Heritage Open Day. Open houses and exhibitions with a heritage theme.
  • 25 September - 29 December, Chesham Girl Guides 1915-2010 Celebrations temporary exhibition

  • Mon 18th Oct, 2.30pm, Tim Yates, 'Looking after people body and soul - Rev Adolphus Aylward and Chesham 1865-1871'. This talk will take place in CHESHAM LIBRARY. Admission by ticket only. Tickets may be purchased from Chesham Museum.
  • Mon 15th Nov, 2.30pm, Richard Elkington (from The Drawing Room), 'The History of Francis Yard'. This talk will take place in CHESHAM LIBRARY. Admission by ticket only. Tickets may be purchased from Chesham Museum.

Reminiscence Sessions

Held every second Monday in the month. There is a theme each month, sometimes with a short talk, and with handling objects where possible. Come along and share your memories, bringing any photos and objects you would like to talk about.
