  • Wednesday 13th August and Saturday 16th August from 10.00am - Book Sale in aid of the Chesham Community Museum Appeal - second hand books, CDs and videos at the old Chapter One bookshop in Market Square, Chesham.
  • Saturday 26th July - Grand Jumble Sale in aid of the Chesham Community Museum Appeal at the old Chapter One Bookshop, 15 Market Square, Chesham 10.00am onwards.
  • Saturday/Sunday 19th/20th July 2008 - Chilterns Show, Town End Farm, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire HP16 9AX.
  • Wednesday 2nd July, 7.45pm - An entertaining evening of Poetry at The Chesham Bookshop, 71 The Broadway, Chesham in aid of Chesham Museum. Come and read your favourite poem. Spaces limited. Call in or phone 01494 791313 for more information.

  • Chesham Schooldays - The official launch of the 'Chesham Schooldays' exhibition by Chesham Mayor Cllr. Merrin Molesworth will be on Sunday 9th September at 3.00pm.
  • Medieval Mayhem - Sunday 2 September - The 750th anniversary of Chesham's Fair and Market Charter. Find out more...
  • 'Rudric' tells the story of the Lady Elgiva - Sunday 2 September at the Museum, behind the Gamekeepers Lodge in Bellingdon Road. 1.15pm and 4.20pm.
  • Thursday 28 June, 7.30pm (please note revised time) at The White Hill Centre, Friends of Chesham Museum - The Stables AGM. The business meeting will be followed by an illustrated talk by local art and handicrafts expert, Janet Dineen, entitled "Food and Fun in Old Chesham". All are welcome but only Friends of Chesham Museum - The Stables are eligible to vote.
  • Saturday 10 March 7.30pm St Marys Church, Chesham. Damon Singers Concert in aid of Chesham Museum - The Stables. Tickets £8 from Perfect Pitch, The Broadway, Chesham or the Museum.

Past Events 2006

  • Chesham High Street: Shops and Shopping - launched during Chesham Heritage Weekend 2006. Items from Chesham shops are on display together with old and new photographs of some of Chesham's shops.
  • History Notes - to accompany the Shops and Shopping display, Museum volunteers have compiled information about the history of shops in the High Street and Market Square. The information is available in a folder the Museum and now includes a surname index of shopkeepers and occupiers.
  • Friday 1 December, Victorian Shopping Evening, Chesham Town Centre. Be sure to visit out stall - we will have small gifts and books for sale, a Guess the Weight of the Beer Flagon competition, a Victorian Timeline and old photographs of Chesham on display. Proceeds from the stall will go to Chesham Museum - The Stables, registered charity no. 1107115.
  • Thursday 30 November, 2.00pm, Chesham Library,'Return to Civvy Street and Return to Teaching'. Another Jim Randall Video Diary, produced by Winchmore Hill resident Peter Viney. This video recounts Jim's experiences on his return to teaching in Chesham after WWII. Book your FREE ticket at Chesham Library.
  • Thursday 23 November, 2.00pm, Chesham Library,'From Horses to Tanks'. Another Jim Randall Video Diary, produced by Winchmore Hill resident Peter Viney. This video recounts Jim's experiences with the Royal Scots Greys in WWII, as the regiment became the last to gave up horses for tanks and armoured vehicles.
  • Thursday 16 November, 11.00am, Chesham Library. An opportunity to see 'Early Days - Living in Chesham', a unique video diary, produced by Winchmore Hill resident Peter Viney, and to meet Jim Randall, soldier, rugby player, horseman and former teacher at Whitehill School.
  • Monday 23 October, 8.00pm in the Dining Room of the Gamekeepers Lodge public house, Bellingdon Road.The Friends of Chesham Museum - The Stables Second Annual General Meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend but only paid-up members of the Friends of Chesham Museum - The Stables are eligible to vote. The meeting will include a short talk by Keith Fletcher on the history of the Co-op in Chesham and the Museum will be open between 7.00 and 8.00pm for anyone who has not yet had an opportunity to see the new Shops and Shopping in Chesham display.
  • Monday 16 to Friday 20 October, Broadway Baptist Church 300th Anniversary. Chesham Museum - The Stables is pleased to lend items from the collections to the Broadway Baptist Church for 'The Broadway Experience' exhibition. Items on display in the Church Hall will include a bible owned by Sarah Jane Taylor, a member of the Zion Chapel Sunday School in 1873 and wooden ware made by made by Joseph Reynolds of Waterside, Chesham.
  • Heritage Weekend - As part of Chesham's Heritage Weekend, Chesham Museum - The Stables will be open 2-5pm on Saturday 9th September as well as Friday 8th and Sunday 10th.

    The weekend also launches the History Notes project. Museum volunteers have been compiling information about the history of shops in the High Street and Market Square. Eventually the information will be available in the Museum but for the Heritage Weekend many shops will be displaying the History Notes in their windows.
  • Cycling in Chesham - a new display about the cycle shops and cycle clubs in Chesham's past. The display includes a brief history of cycling and cycling for women and photographs of early Chesham motorcyclists. Cycling in Chesham is on display from Easter until September 2006.
  • Lace making Demonstration and the official launch by Chesham Town Mayor, Cllr. Chris Spruytenburg, of a Lace making and Straw plaiting exhibition - Sunday 21 May 2.30-500pm.
  • Straw Plaiting Demonstration - Sunday 14 May 2.30-500pm.

  • Saturday 19 November, 7.30pm. - The Damon Singers’ Concert in Aid of Chesham Museum - The Stables at the Broadway Baptist Church, Chesham.
  • Wednesday 28 September - FAITH, HOPE & CHARITY - Chesham's Health display opens.
  • Sunday 26 June 2.30-5.00 pm - Join the Mayor at the Museum for afternoon tea with a 'War-time' theme. Come along in 1940s costume or just come and try the cakes and pastries made to authentic wartime recipes (minus the powdered egg!).
  • Wednesday 4 May 2-5pm - 'Souvenirs of War' display opens to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Victory Over Europe.
  • Sunday 1 - Tuesday 31 May - Museums and Galleries Month, an annual celebration of all that’s best in the UK’s museums and galleries. Find out more about the background to MGM...
