The Queen's Head - the outbuildings' have sandstone foundations - is close to Water Lane, which follows the course of the Bury Brook, as the River Chess is known here. A large open area of grass adjacent to Water Lane marks the site of Wright's sawmill (plaque K), once a wood mill and a tannery, demolished in 1965. The Water Meadow car park occupies the site of the Hamm (an enclosure of water meadow at the bend of the river) which gave Chesham its name.
