Chesham objects in other collections

  • Have you spotted an object associated with Chesham in another museum? If so, we would love to know about it. Chiltern Toys had a factory making wooden and other toys in Waterside, Chesham until the outbreak of WWII. This Chiltern Toys bear is in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Weedon's Almshouses

Weedon's Almshouses in Waterside date from 1624. Close by, on the opposite side of the road at the junction with Amersham Road, is the site of The Pound (plaque F) where stray animals were impounded until a fine was paid. Further along Amersham Road is Mineral Cottage, at the site of a chalybeate spring, (plaque G). This was built in 1820 by a committee trying to establish Chesham as a spa town, to accommodate visitors coming to take the iron-rich water
